- We live in a Network Society (Castells, 1996)
- Networks are representations of systems in which the elements (or nodes) are connected by ties (Wasserman and Faust, 1994).
- Social networks are dynamic by nature. Ties are established, they flourish and evolve into close relationships, and they can also dissolve quietly or suddenly (Snijders, Bunt and Steglich, 2010)
- Personal and whole networks give answers about who are the key players in an interconnected system, how are they organized and what is the overall distribution of control. In other words, networks give you an idea about who controls the world (Glattfelder, 2013)
